What Donatella did next

Donatella Versace is stepping into a new phase of her career. Eighteen months after departing Versace in March 2025, capping nearly 28 years as the house’s creative director, today, she has unveiled plans for a new brand created in partnership with U.S.-based retailer Revolve.

In her role as chief creative officer, Donatella will steer the venture’s creative direction, shaping its identity, products, collaborators, and broader cultural presence. Revolve will contribute its worldwide e-commerce capabilities, technology, consumer insights, operational infrastructure, marketing, and community-building expertise.

Details about the brand’s name, creative direction, and debut launch, starting with a beauty line, will be shared in the months ahead. “I believe creativity should be bold, inclusive, and alive in the world. I have always been inspired by the next generation, in music, film, art and, of course, fashion,” Donatella Versace said. “This partnership gives me the freedom to speak to that generation in a completely new and personal way, through beauty and fashion.”

This move represents a major turning point for Donatella, shifting from steering one of fashion’s most iconic heritage labels to building something entirely new from scratch. It also underscores her enduring fascination with how fashion intersects with broader popular culture.

Mike Karanikolas, Revolve Group’s co-founder and co-CEO, framed the collaboration as a chance to merge Donatella’s creative vision with Revolve’s technological capabilities, operational strength, and global footprint, with a focus on long-term growth. Raissa Gerona, Revolve Group’s president of brand and partnerships, echoed this sentiment, pointing to Donatella’s talent for bridging fashion and culture and her deep understanding of younger consumers today.

Perhaps no designer’s career has been as tightly intertwined with one fashion house as Donatella Versace’s has been with Versace. Raised as Gianni Versace’s younger sister, muse, and confidante, she was immersed in the family enterprise well before assuming creative leadership. She founded Versus, the youth-oriented line within the Versace brand family, in 1989, then stepped into the role of Versace’s creative director in 1997 after Gianni’s death.

Across the decades that followed, she cultivated Versace’s bold, instantly recognizable aesthetic while pushing its reach far beyond conventional fashion circles. Under her guidance, the brand became deeply woven into music, celebrity culture, and mainstream pop culture, with its runway shows and ad campaigns often turning into major cultural moments.

The Versace family sold the company to Michael Kors in 2018 for $2.1 billion, after which the parent company was renamed Capri Holdings. Then in 2025, Prada Group revealed its plan to purchase Versace from Capri Holdings for €1.25 billion.

Rather than joining another established fashion house, Donatella has chosen a different path: building her own venture, supported by Revolve’s resources and infrastructure.

This new chapter will launch with beauty products first, with further details about the brand’s name, identity, and rollout timeline to come in the following months. For a designer whose work has always merged fashion and popular culture, this next stage looks set to carry that fusion into fresh territory.
