Migdalor a forthcoming solo exhibition by Sheila Hicks will open at Magasin III Museum & Foundation for Contemporary Art’s space in Jaffa, Tel Aviv on 11 October. For the artist, Migdalor (the Hebrew translation for ‘Lighthouse’) works as a symbolic reference to forms that act as path finders.

Sheila Hicks is an internationally-renowned American artist, based in Paris since the mid-1960s with a career spanning six decades. She is known for her innovative use of materials and colours inspired by pre-Columbian craftsmanship.

Migdalor, curated by Karmit Galili, features three significant recent installations by the artist.  Hicks’ Comets (2016 – 2018), a bas-relief sculpture composed of circular sculptures in a range of vibrant colours, textures and shapes extended along one of the major walls will be one of the highlights of the exhibition. An earlier version of this work was shown at the Musée d’Art Moderne in Paris this year. The striking monumental Saffron Sentinel (2017) will be presented in a large section of the exhibition and be visible from both windowed façades day and night.
