Erskine, Hall & Coe presents Koji Hatakeyama & Matthew Harris, an exhibition comprising 45 cast bronze lidded boxes by Hatakeyama alongside works on paper by Harris. The show runs from 7 December 2017 until 12 January 2018.
Hatakeyama grew up in Takaoka, Japan, a city renowned for metal casting. His cast bronze sculptures are imbued with humility and not intended to be functional. ‘Every article I make should live.’ he said. Hatakeyama’s work is included in many private collections including the National Museum of Modern Art in Tokyo, the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.
Harris, a British artist working with paper and cloth, has created a number of pictures for the exhibition which will be juxtaposed with Hatakeyama’s sculptures. Harris has exhibited widely throughout the UK, Europe, the USA and Japan.
