Dinh Q. Lê’s Deep Blue See at Art Basel Hong Kong

The Deep Blue Sea is a new work by Vietnamese-American artist presented at Art Basel Hong Kong. The art fair closed yesterday evening. The spectacular work shows layers of glossy photographs cascading from the ceiling to folding on a white plinth. But despite the aesthetic side of these works, the message is clearly political. These are single images of the Mediterranean Sea stretched to 150-foot scrolls meant to raise awareness on the refugee tragedies taking place in Southern Europe.
