“It took me a very long time to convince Dries to share his passions, his creative and intimate world in front of a camera,” filmmaker Reiner Holzemer said about the upcoming Dries Van Noten documentary which is set to hit cinemas next year. Holzemer previously followed talents such as Karl Lagerfeld and Juergen Teller.
The film will track a year of collections and look back at the designer’s career including Cate Blanchett’s Oscar moment. Antwerp-based, Van Noten graduated from the Antwerp Academy in 1980 and began his career in fashion in 1986 when he showed his first collection in London as part of the Antwerp Six collective.
The film is being produced, written, and director by Reiner Holzemer and distributed by Dogwoof Pictures.
In 2014, the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris presented a critically-acclaimed exhibition looking at Dries Van Noten’s inspiration by juxtaposing his emblematic pieces with past and present artworks. The show was curated by Pamela Golbin.
