Next month in Greece, pianist and singer Rufus Wainwright will introduce a film by Francesco Vezzoli starring contemporary artist Cindy Sherman. Inspired and featuring Maria Callas’ orginal costumes, the video will accompany Wainwright’s opera Prima Donna presented at the Odeon of Herode Atticus in Athens (opening on 15 September). Costumes were borrowed from the Tirelli costume archives in Rome.

“The video was shot last May in Paris at Théâtre des Variétés, featuring Cindy as the quintessential opera diva. The film depicts fictional, pivotal chapters of the singer’s life and career, in her full glory and darker situations, showing her fading away,” Vezzoli said to The Art Newspaper.
