Pipilotti Rist at The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA

Big Heartedness, Be My Neighbor by Swiss media artist Pipilotti Rist is on view at MOCA in LA, California until June 2022. Rist’s large-scale installations examine themes of instincts, reasons, feminism, mind landscapes and relations to the body.

In the words of the artist ‘beside the energy-intensive exploration of the geographical world, pictures, films and sounds have been and are the spaces into which we can escape… The projector is the flamethrower, the space is the vortex and you are the pearl within.’

The stunning exhibition, conceived as a full experience brings together some of the artist’s most iconic works, composed of mesmerizing musical scores, single-channel videos, and decorative environments. Pipilotti Rist: Big Heartedness, Be My Neighbor also debuts a new audio-video installation made specifically for The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA.

Since 1984, Rist has had countless solo and group exhibitions, and video screenings worldwide. Her recent solo exhibitions ‘Come On Honey…’ at Kunsthalle Krems (2015), ‘Your Saliva is My Diving Suit of the Ocean of Pain’ at Kunsthaus Zürich (2016), ‘Pixel Forest’ at New Museum New York (2016 – 2017) and ‘Sip My Ocean’ at the Museum of Contemporary Art Sydney (2017 – 2018) all resulted in record-breaking attendance numbers for each institution.

Rist’s works brilliantly feature sweeping views, extreme close-ups and celebrate shared experiences, humour and cultural critique. The exhibition is spectacular and is a must-see.
