Portrait of an Artist: Conversations with Trailblazing Creative Women was recently published by Prestel. This fascinating book brings together 25 famous creative women through intimate conversations and polaroid portraits. A rare chance to get intimate with global movie stars, artists, musicians, singers, writers, and cultural disruptors.
“The fact that I’m always unsatisfied is perhaps what gives me an appetite.” Charlotte Gainsbourg explains in 2020 in NYC. Her interview, given from NYC, reveals interesting insights into her oeuvre and personality.
Portrait of an Artist features world-famous women from the full spectrum of the creative industry, geographies and generations. All photographed and interviewed by Mexican artist Hugo Huerta Marin, former studio assistant of Marina Abramović, these unseen candid images and original interviews are published for the first time. Some of the names include Yoko Ono, Kiki Smith, Miuccia Prada, Isabelle Huppert, FKA Twigs, Marina Abramović, Tracey Emin alongside the likes of Annie Lennox, Cate Blanchette and Rei Kawakubo.
“You know what? Every person has their own opinion about me and my work, and those are their ideas, not mine. Once I’ve communicated my art, I’ve done my part.’ Yoko Ono said in 2016 in NYC.
In addition to exploring how these women have shaken the structures of established belief systems and helped shaped the world as we see it today, Marin also investigates the concept of portraiture which has served to depict the icons of ancient civilizations for thousands of years.
