Saint Laurent recently announced that the house would no longer be taking part in fashion week but working in line with their schedule; a welcomed disruption of the absurdly-busy fashion calendar.
Now, part of their schedule is the launch of ‘Noses Elbows and Knees’ by Mario Sorrenti and John Baldessari a book supervised by Neville Wakefield made available in Paris and L.A stores this week.
Published at the end of 2017, the book includes artworks presented at Half Gallery, New York in 2018. Working together, the late Baldessari worked with photographer Sorrenti to create new visuals that would deconstruct familiar representations. These images powerfully strip off clothes and societal codes through the juxtaposition of Baldessari’s iconic patches of colours, applied on body parts of models shot by Sorrenti. Baldessari passed away in January 2020 and influenced the work of other artists including Barbara Kruger and Cindy Sherman.
