DRAG: Self-portraits and Body Politics opens at the Hayward Gallery in London on 22nd August.
The exhibition explores the work of more than thirty artists who have used drag to question themes of gender politics, identity and societal and self-representations.
The artists on view will include Ming Wong, Cerith Wyn Evans, juxtaposed with more famous names such as Robert Mapplethorpe and Cindy Sherman. The works range from the 1960s to the present. Highlights include self-portraits by a younger generation of contemporary artists who have recently embraced drag as an art form, including Adam Christensen and Victoria Sin.
