The Canaletto View at the Belvedere Museum
Dubbed the “Canaletto” view, the iconic landscape of the Belvedere Museum by the Italian painter Canaletto inspires a grand exhibition staged in one of Vienna’s most significant museums.
Curated by Markus Fellinger and running from 29 June 2018 to 14 October 2018, the show will present scenes of this view by the likes of Gerhart Frankl, Otto Rudolf Schatz, Tina Blau and more. Looking at the political and historical developments of Austria and Europe, this exhibition traces the evolution of the beautiful Viennese site through the eyes of various painters and styles. The exhibition sheds light on this perspective placing the view in the context of history and urban planning.
