“No one discovered Alexander McQueen, McQueen discovered himself”. These are the final dramatic lines of the incredibly intriguing teaser of a new documentary on the late designer and artist Alexander McQueen.
The new documentary by directors Ian Bonhôte and Peter Ettedgui that premiered Sunday night at the Tribeca Film Festival, narrates the fascinating and sad life of one of fashion greatest minds.
Compiled from archival clips from close to 200 sources, along with new interviews and original material, spanning people such as Isabella Blow, members of his family such as his mother; his older sister, Janet and his nephew Gary, it depicts the evolution of a genius haunted by his demons.
“The imagery he was making and the cinematic, visual beauty [and] madness of his shows were seeping into everyone’s psyche,” Bonhôte says.
McQueen opens in theaters in July.
