For the 2017/2018 Chanel Cruise Collection, Karl Lagerfeld took inspiration from Ancient Greece and transformed the Grand Palais into yet another spectacular set. The designer drew an interesting parallel between the simplicity of Ancient Greek tuniques and Coco Chanel’s visual language and innovations. Models walked along (fake) ruins, pillars, vestiges which somehow recalled the Parthenon. “This is a modern message for me. The criteria, simplicity and beauty of Archaic and Classic Greece are still valid. The invitation featured a Greek sculpture from her own private collection by the way and Renaissance was hugely inspired by Ancient Greece.” said Karl Lagerfeld after the show.
Olympic crowns, leather draped minaudiers, plisse juppe-culottes made models goddess. Another “wow factor” for the quintessential Parisian brand.
