Next February, Merce Cunningham’s collaborations and creative impact will be explored in a highly-anticipated exhibition presented at the Walker Ar Centre, Minneapolis, home to the complete archive of the Merce Cunningham Dance Company (MCDC) and copresented with the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago. The exhibition is curated by Fionn Meade and Philip Bither with Joan Rothfuss and Mary Coyne. Throughout his career, Cunningham created choreographies, costumes, music, films, décors alongside other numerous other eminent artists. The choreographer and dancer constantly pushed the boundaries of dance, music, and visual art.
In the seven galleries of the museum, the Walker’s McGuire Theater, the Walker Cinema, Common time will feature 60 pieces in dialogue with Cunningham’s oeuvre from luminaries including composer John Cage, Trisha Brown, Tacita Dean, Jasper Johns, Rei Kawakubo, Bruce Nauman, Isamu Noguchi, Robert Rauschenberg, Frank Stella, Andy Warhol, and many others.
