This is contemporary painter Katharina Grosse’s latest project, presented by MoMA PS1 in Rockaway, NY. The artist has converted a derelict house destroyed by Hurricane Sandy into a vivid installation piece. The German artist’s work deals with concept of regeneration and disembodiment, using deconstruction and vivid colours as prime media.
Drawing inspiration from Abstract Expressionism, Grosse has sprayed brightly red paint directly onto the structure. Her work highlights the fragility of this manmade structure and its natural surroundings. The installation also seeks to memorialise this building, which is set to be demolished in late 2016. It questions longevity and existence.
