The Stavros Niarchos Foundation designed by Renzo Piano opens its doors

The non-profit Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF), designed by Italian starchitect Renzo Piano, has just opened in Athens. The stunning building, commissioned to Piano in 2008, features the National Library of Greece, the Greek National Opera and a 210,000 sqm landscaped park. It took twenty-six years to happen and eventually the building will be given to the Greek State. The eco-friendly park, designed by Deborah Nevins & Associates, offers stunning views of the sea and includes an artificial hill. The connection between the Kallithea region and the sea was an important point on the architect’s agenda.

A series of performances and events titled ‘Metamorphosis: The SNFCC to the World’, will accompany the inauguration of this impressive new cultural space.
