When in New Delhi: stay at Villa Amarya is an oasis of quiet
Villa Amarya, conveniently close to the airport and strategically located in New Delhi’s South neighborhood of the Safdarjung Enclave, feels like an oasis of quiet in the chaos of such a big city.
New Delhi’s main sites such as the Humayun’s Tomb, the Qtub Minar and Red Fort are easily accessible from this elegant boutique hotel.
The smart nine bedrooms of this discreet villa – ranging from standard, deluxe, executive, and suite – are themed around India’s iconic nine gemstones: emerald, ruby, blue sapphire, pearl, topaz, coral, yellow sapphire, zircon and diamond. While a bright pink and orange lounge area welcomes guests, each room refers to these gemstone colours and displays slick and tasteful designs and art. The European owners of the villas came up with this brilliant idea to start designing each room.
The warm, efficient and welcoming staff makes you feel at home and you immediately relax after you’ve passed the white gate. Refreshments were served on arrival and the latest fashion and architecture magazines and travel guides make you want to stay forever! The fresh breakfast was fantastic and the crepes served reminded me of my time in France. The attention to these details makes it a fantastic experience. Blue chip spa treatments and massages are also available in your bedroom and you just have to use the mobile phone provided on arrival.
The chic Blue Sapphire room, where I was kindly invited to stay, features a beautiful marbled-bathroom, elegant regional furniture and textiles, all arranged with great taste.
The big bonus of this room is the great terrace overlooking the inviting green patio. It had all the modernity you needed: a flat-screen TV, bottled water and complimentary toiletries. An in-room closet, a ceiling fan, air con and wireless internet access are also there if you need them. The sublte French touch of the owners is smartly mixed with an Indian inspiration reflected in the artworks on the walls, the carpets or the small plates on display.
Villa Amarya is a lovely and smart place to stay which I highly recommend. A jewel !
Don’t miss the little display of original products in the main lounge area. This is the perfect opportunity to purchase last-minute gifts!
Now I look forward to staying at Paros by Amarya, in Goa, a second boutique hotel featuring a Portuguese-inspired villa, eight luxury tents and two suites. Le Souk by Amarya, also in Goa, is a platform for designers, jewellery, home decoration, hair salon and a coffee shop… Maybe in the future.
