Diptyque partners with Charlotte Trounce ahead of New Bond street opening in 2024

Diptyque, the iconic candles and home fragrance house, catering for sensorial experiences and home delights is no stranger to partnering with artists. Among the many products, the brand develops fragrances, eaux de toilette, hair mist, and perfumed bracelets, bath and body products, home decors, ranging from ornaments, tableware and artisan masterpieces. There’s something for everyone at Diptyque.

Art was always at the centre of the brand since its beginnings. Three multidisciplinary artists, connected by their love of nature, sense of beauty, and insatiable curiosity, met in the bohemian Saint-Germain-des-Prés, the cultural and intellectual heart of Paris in the 1960s. This marked the start of a creative journey leading to the very successful global company it is today. Diptyque encapsulates a unique realm where creativity and imagination are free to flow, a place that bridges fantasies and reality.

The epitome of luxury, Diptyque champions artists for exclusive synergies and special lines. The artist’s editions feature household name such as Hiroshi Sugimoto, Othoniel and Johan Creten for example. The house also celebrates emerging talents with recent collaborations with Matthieu Cossé and Maurice Harris to name a selection only.

The most recent commission featured illustrator and artist Charlotte Trounce. Charlotte Trounce is a freelance Illustrator based in London and Edinburgh. She has worked on a wide variety of projects including publishing, postcards, packaging and product design on projects for The New York Times, Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Barbican, Art Fund, Google Arts & Culture, and Penguin Books. She was also included in exhibitions in London and Düsseldorf.

Ahead of the 2024 opening in central London, Charlotte talks to Art is Alive about her work with Diptyque on New Bond Street in London:

How does it feel to create this amazing artwork for Diptyque? “I felt very honoured when I heard that Diptyque wanted to entrust me with painting the hoarding for their new store, and also, I admit, a little nervous when I heard the scale – my largest canvas to date! I was very pleased with the finished artwork though and I think the vibrancy of the design helped to attract interest from curious passersby and will hopefully create a buzz around the opening of the store next year.”

Please tell us about the inspiration for this piece? “Diptyque provided me with a loose brief – to draw inspiration from their herbarium of scents. From there I looked back at my archive of work and collected ideas from different artworks and from photographs I have taken of nature over the years. I wanted to create a design that took you on a journey through an imaginary landscape – with a path that almost leads your eyes through and around a garden, visualising the scents you might experience. I chose colours to represent Diptyque collections, from fresh floral scents to earthy, woody fragrances.”

What does the Diptyque house represent for you? “To me Diptyque represents beauty, nature and creativity. The brand always feels very classic and respectful of its heritage, whilst also looking to the future and continually evolving or reinventing.”

Revealing her vibrant palette on the Diptyque facade of the future boutique, Charlotte Trounce takes her art to new levels. Exploring nature, floral inspiration and creativity through pure and simple artistic gestures, the artist expresses imaginary worlds and beautiful forms.

With this new collaboration, Diptyque provides emerging artists new platforms to showcase their work and offers some of the biggest canvases in town through a wonderful art carte blanche.

Joyful flames and dancing moves are hallmarks of the holiday collection. They embellish the collection’s extravagant products for beautiful tables and splendid interiors for the festive season.
