Sallisa Rosa for Audemars Piguet in Miami

An immersive show presented by Audemars Piguet took Art Basel Miami Beach by storm. Titled Topography of Memory, the installation by Brazilian artist Sallisa Rosa examines the reprogramming of memory. With this commission, Rosa set to investigate the links between memory cuts and soil erosion as well as how we collectively remember as a society.

Sallisa Rosa is a Brazilian artist born in Goiânia in 1986, who combines performance, installations, video, and photography in her work. Her art investigates how humans relate to the planet. Echoing the idea that culture unites people, as expressed by Audemars Piguet Contemporary, she actively works with local communities and envisages land, clay and materiality.

In this spectacular earthy work, Rosa employs collected clay in homage to customary knowledge and the preservation of non-industrial methods of production. The artist believes ceramics have the symbolic ability to hold memories that aid in memory recall.

This installation, on view in Miami until 17th December, will be followed by an extended presentation at the Pinacoteca de São Paulo from 16 March – 28 July 2024. Topography of Memory marks the artist’s first solo exhibition in the U.S. and her first installation made entirely of ceramics. The presentation of the commission at the Pinacoteca will be the first exhibition in Brazil of a work commissioned by Audemars Piguet Contemporary.
