Sang Woo Kim’s impressive works will feature as a solo booth with Herald St at Art Basel Hong Kong (next week), marking his first solo presentation in Asia. He’s a rock star!
The stand will feature a new body of work spanning painting and pigment transfer, continuing his focus on self-portraiture and the depiction of the face.
Born in Seoul in 1994 and now based in London, Kim has developed a practice centred on repeated, often fragmented representations of his own image. In these works, facial features are doubled, partially obscured, or layered, creating compositions that emphasise process and material as much as subject. In the realms of fashion, Sang Woo Kim is also a British‑Korean model, celebrated for his collaborations with brands like Burberry and his studies at Central Saint Martins, where he explores themes of identity and cultural duality.
The presentation in Hong Kong builds on his recent exhibition history following his representation by Herald St. The recent show in London was truly fantastic. It also reflects the gallery’s ongoing commitment to introducing emerging and mid-career artists to an international audience through major fair platforms.
