Paris is set to honor one of contemporary cinema’s most vibrant voices this spring. From 8 April to 25 May 2026, the mk2 Bibliothèque in collaboration with Centre Pompidou, Paris, presents a full retrospective of Pedro Almodóvar, offering a rare opportunity to trace the evolution of a filmmaker whose work has continually redefined modern cinema. The retrospective will take place at mk2 Bibliothèque x Centre Pompidou, Paris 13e.
Spanning from his audacious debut Pepi, Luci, Bom et autres filles du quartier (1980), a low-budget, playful comedy shot among friends in Madrid’s pulsating Movida scene, to his latest English-language drama, La Chambre d’à côté (2024), winner of the Golden Lion at Venice, the retrospective captures the breadth of Almodóvar’s cinematic imagination.
Highlights include: Volver (2006), Matador (1986), Julieta (2016), Carne Trémula (1997), Hable con ella (2002), La piel que habito (2011), and many more, illustrating the director’s enduring fascination with passion, Spanish identity, desire, memory, and human complexity.
The program goes beyond screenings, featuring masterclasses and discussions with Almodóvar himself (can you imagine?), as well as collaborators, critics, and friends, offering intimate insight into the creative processes that have made his filmography so enduring.
As the filmmaker completes his 25th feature, the retrospective invites audiences to reflect on what sustains the vitality of Almodóvar’s work: its fearless originality, its evolving themes, and its persistent relevance in today’s cinematic landscape. For cinephiles and newcomers alike, this is a chance to experience the full spectrum of a singular artistic vision in dialogue with its creator.
