David Bowie: You’re Not Alone at Lightroom

In April, You’re Not Alone (a reference to the song Rock ‘n’ Roll Suicide), the new immersive show at Lightroom London, will open.

The exhibition spans Bowie’s career through visuals, videos, and short interviews. It traces his journey from early performances to his final artistic phases. Not far from Lightroom, Bowie’s last stage work, Lazarus, was staged around King’s Cross in 2016 with actor Michael C. Hall playing the alien Thomas Newton, joined by Michael Esper as Valentine and Sophia Anne Caruso as the Girl, among others in a cast that brought Bowie’s music and vision to life on the London stage.

Also in London, the David Bowie Centre at the Victoria and Albert Museum’s East Storehouse holds tens of thousands of items from Bowie’s archive. The centre is a new permanent home for more than 80,000 objects donated by the Bowie estate, including handwritten lyrics, costumes, instruments, photos, and personal notebooks that trace his creative life and influence. A rotating selection of about 200 treasures is on display, and visitors can book time to study or view items up close through the museum’s Order an Object programme. The archive sits in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park area of east London, offering another place in the city where Bowie’s legacy can be explored.

Curated with care and authorized by the Bowie estate, The Lightroom show is a 360° journey through Bowie’s life. Visitors are not greeted by static panels, but by a symphony of light, film, and sound, showing Bowie as both subject and narrator. Rare archival footage mixes with personal notebooks, sketches, and recordings, offering intimate glimpses of his creative process. Bowie appears unguarded, visionary, and human. Or was he?

The space is designed to impress. Walls, floors, and ceilings pulse with imagery, while HOLOPLOT spatial audio surrounds visitors with sound, from the haunting strains of Young Americans to the energy of Let’s Dance. Every step feels choreographed.

You’re Not Alone will explore creativity, transformation, and cultural impact. Themes of spirituality, self‑invention, and artistry flow through the show, creating an emotional rhythm that mirrors Bowie’s own voice and visuals.

Fans will discover rare footage and subtle gestures that reveal his curiosity and genius. Newcomers will experience a full‑bodied encounter with a figure whose influence stretches across music, fashion, and art.

Bowie’s universe is alive, evolving, and luminous. It will be on view from 22 April – 28 June 2026.
