‘Amores Perros’: a new book and exhibition by Alejandro G. Iñárritu

MACK and Fondazione Prada will soon release a landmark new book by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Alejandro G. Iñárritu: a powerful homage to his groundbreaking debut Amores Perros, published to coincide with the film’s 25th anniversary.

Widely recognised for his emotionally resonant and visually daring cinema, Iñárritu has redefined contemporary filmmaking with works such as Babel, Biutiful, Birdman, and The Revenant. His films are known for their psychological depth, formal innovation, and the seamless blending of realism and surrealism.

This richly produced volume presents a striking visual and critical exploration of Amores Perros, featuring an expansive collection of film stills, behind-the-scenes photography, director’s notes, and excerpts from early reviews. Printed using a range of luminous techniques and paper stocks, the book evokes the raw, kinetic energy that made the film a global cinematic milestone at the turn of the millennium.

Published in parallel with a trio of exhibitions in Mexico City, Los Angeles, and Milan, the book includes a new text by Iñárritu and contributions from an illustrious group of collaborators and admirers: directors Denis Villeneuve and Walter Salles, celebrated writers Jorge Volpi and Wendy Guerra, renowned film critic Elvis Mitchell, and storyboard artist Fernando Llanos. A foreword by Miuccia Prada opens the volume.

Coinciding with the book’s launch, Fondazione Prada will host Sueño Perro: A Film Installation by Alejandro G. Iñárritu in Milan, on view from 18 September to 26 February. Conceived as a multisensory experience, the installation blurs the boundaries between cinema and visual art while reflecting on the enduring legacy of Amores Perros.

“With this project, we aim to open new perspectives on Iñárritu’s work and on a film that, from its very start, combined the force of realism with the density of symbolism. Twenty-five years after it was released, Amores Perros continues to speak to the present and to capture, with visual and emotional power, the full complexity of the world we live in,” said Miuccia Prada, President and Director of Fondazione Prada.

First released in 2000, the film is widely considered a touchstone of 21st-century cinema and a vital early chapter in Iñárritu’s distinguished body of work. This remarkable book will illuminate both the creative process and its brilliant artistic inspiration.
