Doron Langberg at the Armory

Doron Langberg is featured on the beautiful booth of Victoria Miro at The Armory Show (Booth 106). Today is the last day to visit the fair. Art is Alive talked to the artist in 2020.

Created over the past two years, these works differ from Langberg’s large-scale studio paintings and preparatory studies. Painted directly from observation, often in a single sitting, they offer moments of pause, sensuality and reflection.

The works capture the moods and states of mind present during these intimate staging: friends’ portraits painted en plein air, the tangled landscape of Fire Island’s Meat Rack, and scenes from Langberg’s birthplace. Light plays a central role, whether revealing the glow of desire, or the shifting tones of landscape, imbuing each scene with emotional resonance.

Through colours and gesture, Langberg conveys the defining qualities of people, while hinting at deeper emotional currents.
