‘Liberating the Soul’: Keith Haring at Gladstone

This September, the iconic NY gallery Gladstone will open Liberating the Soul: Keith Haring’s Paintings, a rare presentation of late-career works by the street artist. Bringing together emotionally charged canvases and painted tarps, the exhibition reflects Haring’s sense of unity.

The show will focus on Haring’s deep engagement with themes of global harmony, accessible healthcare during the AIDS crisis, and art as an expression of joy and collective communion. While best known for his subway drawings and public projects rooted in the belief that art should be accessible to all, Haring (who was Madonna’s friend) also cultivated a vital painting practice. His canvases at times exuberant and humorous, at others sharply critical of social injustice, reveal the depth of his vision. This context will make the show poignant.

A dedicated student of art history and an active interlocutor among his contemporaries, Haring developed a formal painterly language that enriched and expanded his broader artistic legacy. From 18th September to 1st November.
