Rick Owens takes over Palais Galliera

The Palais Galliera presents the first Parisian exhibition devoted to the visionary fashion designer Rick Owens. Spanning from his early work in Los Angeles to his latest collections, the show traces the evolution of an aesthetic shaped by a deep interest in spiritual ritual. Palais Galleria in itself is a beautiful space.

Owens draws inspiration from a broad spectrum of sources, including the decadent writings of Joris-Karl Huysmans, modern and contemporary art, and the cinematic grandeur of early 20th-century Hollywood. Serving as the exhibition’s artistic director, Owens collaborated closely with the Palais Galliera’s curatorial team to design an immersive experience that unfolds across the museum’s galleries, façade, and garden.

Showcasing over 100 looks, this major retrospective is complemented by a rich array of personal materials from Rick Owens’s archives, including videos, documents, and previously unseen installations. The exhibition sheds new light on his work by placing it in conversation with pieces by Gustave Moreau, and Joseph Beuys highlighting the diverse cultural and artistic influences that inform his vision. Expect lots of blakc and white!

Central to the presentation is the enduring presence of Michèle Lamy, Owens’s creative and life partner, whose impact is felt throughout, including in a faithful recreation of their California bedroom. Lamy has had so many lives.

The exhibition Rick Owens, Temple of Love is unparalleled in both scale and ambition. Featuring silhouettes largely drawn from the archives of one of today’s foremost designers, the museum is transformed into a sacred space celebrating the art of creation. This spectacular show is on view until January 2026.
