Céleste Boursier-Mougenot at Bourse de Commerce

Clinamen is an aquatic and musical installation by Céleste Boursier-Mougenot that transforms the Rotunda of the stunning Bourse de Commerce venue in Paris, into a meditative, dreamlike space. Céleste Boursier-Mougenot represented France at the 56th Venice Biennale in 2015 among presence in many impressive exhibitions and collections around the world.

At the center of the work, an 18-meter-wide basin filled with water mirrors the sky visible through the gallery’s dome. White ceramic bowls drift gently across the surface, set in motion by a subtle current. As they collide and separate, they produce delicate, melodic sounds, an evolving, self-generating composition shaped entirely by chance. These unprompted acoustic vibrations form the core of the work: a spontaneous symphony that emerges from the interplay of movement, water, and sound.

The Bourse de Commerce is transformed into a space for deep listening and quiet contemplation, inviting each visitor to reflect on their personal relationship with time and sound. With this installation, Céleste Boursier-Mougenot initiates a subtle dialogue between material, architecture, and human presence. He crafts an environment where art becomes both an intimate, individual encounter and a shared, collective experience.

The artwork is on view until 21st September and it’s a must-see.
