Jordan Wolfson at Fondation Beyeler

Jordan Wolfson (b. 1980, New York) is a provocative American artist known for pushing boundaries through sculpture, video, installation, animation, animatronics, and virtual reality and this year, the Fondation Beyeler presents Little Room, a new virtual reality installation by the artist.

Debuting to the public for the first time at the museum, this immersive work invites visitors to engage in an experimental spatial experience in which they become central participants.

Upon entering the installation, each visitor is paired either with a stranger or a chosen companion. After undergoing a full 3D body scan, participants enter a virtual environment where they experience themselves through the other’s body. This encounter gradually unfolds into increasingly unsettling and disorienting shifts in physical and spatial perception.

Little Room delves into the complex interplay between the real, the virtual, and the imagined. Through this work, Wolfson confronts the darker dimensions of human experience, raising profound questions around identity and consciousness. With Little Room, the artist pushes the boundaries of virtual reality to create a singular encounter that challenges and redefines how we perceive the medium. It’s on view until 3rd August 2025.
