This one of the most important exhibitions this year. The National Galleries of Ancient Art, in collaboration with the Galleria Borghese present Caravaggio 2025 at Palazzo Barberini. Curated by Francesca Cappelletti, Maria Cristina Terzaghi, and Thomas Clement Salomon, this major exhibition stands as one of the most ambitious projects ever dedicated to Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio (1571–1610).
Bringing together an exceptional number of works, Caravaggio 2025 offers an unprecedented opportunity to experience rarely seen masterpieces and recent discoveries. Hosted in one of the key historical locations tied to Caravaggio and his patrons, the exhibition explores the cultural and artistic context that cemented the artist’s role as a pivotal figure in the history of art.
The installation at Palazzo Barberini is designed to highlight the dramatic power and striking modernity of Caravaggio’s painting, reaffirming his status as one of the greatest masters of all time.
By bringing together some of Caravaggio’s most celebrated masterpieces alongside lesser-known but equally significant works, the exhibition offers a fresh and in-depth reflection on the artistic and cultural revolution sparked by the Master. For the first time within such a comprehensive context, Caravaggio 2025 explores the groundbreaking innovations he introduced to the artistic, religious, and social landscape of his time.
A highlight of the exhibition is the exceptional loan from Intesa Sanpaolo’s collections, on display courtesy of the Gallerie d’Italia in Naples, of The Martyrdom of Saint Ursula, Caravaggio’s final work, painted shortly before his death.
