björk’s Cornucopia Film Heads to Cinemas Worldwide

A limited theatrical release has been announced for Cornucopia, the concert film capturing Björk’s groundbreaking live tour. Premiering on 7 May, the film will be shown in cinemas across more than 25 countries, including Australia, Brazil, Denmark, Germany, Sweden, the US, and the UK. Additional release dates include 8 May in Spain, 9 May in Canada, and 11 May in France.

“I am so thrilled to share an hour excerpt of the Cornucopia concert film here with you online. the full version will be played later in theatres,” Björk shared in a recent Instagram post. “this has been a long journey with hundreds of people helping out. i am so beyond enormously grateful to every single one of them.”

Originally launched in 2019, the Cornucopia tour ran through December 2023, spanning 45 performances across North America, Europe, Oceania, and Asia. Inspired by the climate crisis, the tour brought together tracks from Björk’s 2017 album Utopia and later incorporated material from her 2022 release Fossora. Directed by acclaimed Argentine filmmaker Lucrecia Martel, the shows were a theatrical fusion of music, performance, and visual art. A companion photobook was also released.

“I feel the modern concert film is a matriarchially friendly construct, welcomed in the current climate. where female musicians can share their worlds uncorrupted…” she continued. “in cornucopia, i was joined by musical director and multi instrumentalist bergur þórisson, percussionist manu delago, flute septet Viibra, harpist katie buckley and the hamrahlid choir.” she continued.

The film runs for 1 hour and 39 minutes, and screenings will conclude with three Björk-curated music videos. A condensed version of the performance previously premiered as a livestream on Apple TV+ in January.
