Hockerty was founded in 2008 to make custom clothing accessible to everyone. It was created by three young entrepreneurs in their early twenties who noticed the challenge of finding affordable tailor-made clothing. Like many startups, they began their journey from their own bedrooms. It’s now a success-story.
The house, which shows in Florence, Italy during Pitti Uomo, saw an opportunity to bring technology and craftsmanship together to create real value in the market: made-to-measure menswear at a fair price. The brand features shoes, jackets, shirts, suits, sneakers and so much more. It’s a new way to upgrade one’s wardrobe with properly fitting clothes.
Hockerty’s process is refreshingly simple and unfolds in four stages, starting with design. Customers have two ways to find their perfect suit: they can either select from Hockerty’s curated collections or take full control of the design process. This includes choosing from over 500 fabrics available year-round, such as seersucker for summer and wool blends for winter, along with customization options like pocket styles, cuffed or uncuffed trousers, and preferred lining materials.
While Hockerty operates globally, the brand has a strong connection to Spain, as the design team is based there, and the shoe manufacturing takes place in Almansa, a region with a long tradition of shoemaking. Alberto Gil, eCommerce & Innovation Management at Hockerty talks to Art is Alive.
Where are the offices and ateliers based?
Hockerty‘s headquarters are in Switzerland. We also have an office in Barcelona and another in Shanghai. Barcelona is home to our design teams and customer service, while Shanghai serves as a hub for coordinating operations, sourcing, and quality control across different production facilities in Asia. Additionally, we have production facilities in Almansa, Spain, where skilled artisans handcraft our shoes.
We position ourselves where the value is: Switzerland for precision, Barcelona for style, Almansa for its deep-rooted shoemaking tradition, and Shanghai for efficiency in made-to-measure manufacturing at scale. This global presence allows us to combine traditional craftsmanship with modern technology, ensuring every piece is tailored to perfection.
How is made-to-measure online changing the landscape of men’s fashion?
Made-to-measure online is revolutionizing men’s fashion by making a perfect fit more affordable and accessible. Today’s technology allows the creation of digital body profiles without in-person measurements, streamlining the process and significantly reducing costs. At Hockerty, we leverage AI-based body measurement technology to make custom tailoring seamless for everyone.
At the same time, more customers are shifting toward quality over quantity, preferring garments they have actively designed themselves. The appeal of unique, personalized pieces goes beyond style—it also helps reduce overproduction and waste, aligning with the growing demand for sustainability in fashion.
How important was it to show at Florence Pitti Uomo? Can you expand on your presence during the event and what you hosted?
Pitti Uomo is a key event in the world of menswear, and we make it a priority to be there. Last edition, we attended to spot Hockerty outfits in action and engage with the latest fashion trends. The event is a great opportunity to interact with industry professionals, designers, and style enthusiasts, reinforcing Hockerty’s presence in the menswear scene.
In previous editions, we organize events that connected customers with industry insiders. Who knows? We might do it again in the future.
Can you select a few highlights (from Pitti Uomo) and tell us more about them?
Pitti Uomo always offers great insights into the evolution of menswear, and that’s exactly why we attend—to experience it firsthand.
Three key takeaways: Earthy tones dominated, especially shades of brown, while beige and muted greens remained strong for another season. Double-breasted suits continued their reign, proving once again that they are a staple in modern tailoring. And an interesting footwear trend: loafers were just as present as boots, which is quite remarkable for a winter edition. Among the boots, nearly half were Chelsea boots, confirming their lasting appeal.
What’s a best seller and why do you think it’s so popular?
At Hockerty, we sell a huge variety of suits, each one is unique. With more than 200 fabrics and endless customization options, it wouldn’t be fair to highlight just one. Of course, navy blue is a best-seller—it’s a timeless, versatile choice—but what defines Hockerty is the freedom to create your perfect piece.
If we had to highlight a top-rated product, it would be our chinos and jeans. Customers who wear them never go back to off-the-rack. Just imagine: a perfect fit at the waist, length, and thigh, designed specifically for your body. Super comfortable, durable, and fully customisable—you choose the shade, the fading, and the finishing details. It’s a completely different experience from standard ready-to-wear options.
What’s the future of the brand and are you considering opening a store?
Our future is about continuous improvement—enhancing our service, expanding our range, and refining our technology. We are constantly adding more and better fabrics, improving our AI-based fitting system, and expanding into new product categories, including footwear. Right now, our fit issue ratio is only 5%, which is already one of the lowest in the industry, but we’re committed to making it even better.
And yes, at some point, we will open a store. However, we are already present in over 300 locations worldwide through our partners, who provide measurement, ironing, and fitting services—ensuring that Hockerty customers always have a premium experience.
After meticulous preparations, orders are securely packed and delivered directly to your doorstep within 21 days—or even sooner, depending on the items. As you unbox and try on your new garments, you’ll instantly feel the enhancement of your personal style.
The large choice of textiles, colours, materials and designs make it perfect. The combinations are endless and always stylish. Traditional tailoring houses can feel intimidating, even for experienced menswear enthusiasts, due to their formal customs, small shop spaces, and complex terminology. Visualising a custom-made piece can also be challenging, especially given the high cost. Hockerty simplifies the process by allowing customers to create made-to-measure garments online at a more affordable price, without the need for in-person visits.
