Saint Laurent reintroduces Donald Judd

Once in a while, houses have to redesign their most iconic spaces to keep loyalty with clients. This month, Saint Laurent will reopen its RIVE DROITE location in Paris after a year-long renovation. The redesigned space embodies Creative Director Anthony Vaccarello’s vision, seamlessly blending modern luxury with the brand’s fascinating and sexy heritage. Vaccarello himself, was in charge of the curation of the revamped location.

Featuring a refined mix of raw materials such as concrete, marble, and dark wood, the interior exudes both sophistication and warmth. A key highlight of the transformation is the presentation of furniture by renowned American artist Donald Judd. Known for his minimalist aesthetic, Judd’s pieces complement the store’s design, reinforcing Saint Laurent’s commitment to the intersection of art and fashion. This collaboration not only enhances the visual experience but also allows visitors to engage with functional art in a retail setting. Judd remains one of the most significant artists of the twentieth century. His radical ideas and work continue to provoke and influence the fields of art, architecture, and design.

Saint Laurent, in collaboration with Donald Judd Furniture, has introduced two exclusive bespoke finishes designed specifically for the newly renovated RIVE DROITE store. Available only through Saint Laurent, these finishes, steel and traffic white painted aluminum, are applied to Judd’s original 1984 metal furniture designs. For the first time, the entire collection of 15 pieces, including chairs, tables, desks, and beds, is being produced in these distinctive new colours.

The transformation of this historic space is a key element of Saint Laurent’s global expansion strategy. In 2024, this initiative saw the opening of Babylone, a dedicated bookshop in Paris, with more exciting projects planned for the year ahead.

And that’s not all: a standout feature of the new RIVE DROITE experience is the introduction of the first permanent Sushi Park location outside Los Angeles in its lower ground floor. Celebrated for its exquisite omakase, this iconic California dining spot, favoured by Anthony Vaccarello and his inner circle, will offer an intimate tasting experience featuring expertly crafted seasonal Japanese cuisine.
