Louis Fratino: Satura

Published by MOUSSE to mark the first institutional solo exhibition of American artist Louis Fratino at Centro Pecci, near Florence, Italy, Louis Fratino: Satura highlights the profound relationship between Fratino’s captivating work and Italy. A country that has deeply inspired and influenced his art, Italy serves as a rich source of visual and creative connections for Fratino, whom Art is Alive had the privilege of interviewing in 2019.

This volume features artworks spanning the past decade, alongside a selection of new paintings, offering a comprehensive insight into the artist’s practice and exploring landscape, bodies, sexuality and melancholy. The richly illustrated collection draws inspiration from 20th-century Italian artists such as Mario Mafai, Costantino Nivola, Felice Casorati, and others; the immersive beauty of Italian landscapes and cities like Rome, Milan, and Genoa; and a profound engagement with Italian culture, including poetry by Sandro Penna, Patrizia Cavalli, Pier Paolo Pasolini, and writings by Italian gay activist Mario Mieli.

Curated by Stefano Collicelli Cagol, Director of Centro Pecci, Satura is on view until February 2, 2025, as part of Centro Pecci’s Tuscany at the Centre annual programme. This exhibition follows the critically acclaimed presentation of Fratino’s paintings in Adriano Pedrosa’s Stranieri Ovunque – Foreigners Everywhere, 60th International Art Exhibition at La Biennale di Venezia.

Featuring sculptures, over 30 paintings, and more than 20 drawings and lithographs, Satura at Centro Pecci offers a comprehensive exploration of the artist’s multifaceted oeuvre.
