Cezanne 2025 in Aix-en-Provence

Beginning in June 2025, the City of Aix-en-Provence will host a major event honoring the life and work of painter Paul Cezanne, who was born and died in the city. The celebration will also highlight the landscapes and mountains (La Sainte Victoire) that Cezanne immortalised in his art, serving as both his inspiration and the backdrop to his life.

While Cezanne spent time in both his hometown and Paris, he was consistently drawn back to Aix-en-Provence, captivated by the unique light of its countryside and his deep emotional connection to his birthplace.

In anticipation of Cezanne 2025, the City of Aix-en-Provence has begun a phased restoration of Jas de Bouffan, the estate purchased by the artist’s father in 1859. The city plans to open the house permanently to the public as part of its celebration of Cezanne’s legacy.

Art and history museums in Aix-en-Provence will also run an ambitious programme of events throughout Cezanne 2025, placing the artist in his historical context and offering fresh insight into his legacy, one that was not immediately recognised in his native city or the rest of France.

Before, during and after the ambitious exhibition at the Musée Granet which will feature loans from around the world, young visitors will also have the opportunity to learn about what makes Cezanne’s art unique through a fun and interactive display at La Manufacture starting in February 2025.
