La Chimera by Alice Rohrwacher

Everybody has a Chimaera, something they set out to find but are never able to. For the group of tombaroli, looters of historic tomb contents and prehistoric artefacts, the Chimaera represents freedom from labour and the promise of effortless prosperity. It is the film of the season featuring actor of the moment Josh O’Connor depicted on a great poster.

The Chimaera, reminds Arthur of Beniamina, the wife he lost. Arthur dives inside the soil, explores everywhere, and challenges the invisible in an attempt to find her, all in pursuit of the door to the afterlife that stories mention.

The entwined destiny of these protagonists develop in an exciting voyage between the living and the dead, between forests and towns, between celebrations and solitudes, all in pursuit of the Chimaera. This film, by Alice Rohrwacher, is both poetic and sad.
