When I feel brave relates the tale of a child who is surprised by a bear while roaming through a forest. In this remarkable title, the author skillfully expresses a girl’s thoughts. Britta Teckentrup examines what it means to be courageous. The main character goes through emotions and her actions lead to greater courage.

Very artistic, it is full of vivid collage and drawings that bring the story to new heights. The bear is enormous and unknown, and at first very intimidating. However, as the girl travels through the forest, she befriends the bear, and by the time they get to the end, becomes her friend. It’s a wonderful story of friendship, bravery, and prowess as well as a narrative that celebrates the beauty of nature. A must-have for all kids.
