David Zwirner in London features a fantastic exhibition of new and recent work by famous German artist Gerhard Richter. This is Richter’s first exhibition in London since the gallery announced his representation in December 2022. Richter made his New York debut at David Zwirner in the spring of 2023.
Richter’s thoughtful installation extends his ongoing investigation into the permanence of perception and reinforces his steadfast dedication to the formal and philosophical potential of abstraction. Three of the well-known abstract paintings by the artist, created in the years before he decided to abandon oil painting and devote himself fully to drawing and installation, are the main highlights of this strong show. An extensive series of brand-new works on paper, some created with pencil or ink, others with a combination of the two, shed light on Richter’s increased emphasis and urgency about method and technique in drawing. The show is running until 23rd March 2024.
