Mighty Hoopla 2023

Mighty Hoopla, the leading LGBTQI+ London-based music festival, returns this year in Herne Hill! The amazing festival celebrates and embraces queer culture and offers full-fledged support and acceptance to those who attend. The event focuses on music, art, and youth culture, and features live performances, DJs, and club nights headlined by some of the biggest names in the industry.

Mighty Hoopla takes place at London’s Brockwell Park each year in June and is hosted this year on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th June. Speaking about Mighty Hoopla 2023, festival organiser Jamie Tagg said: “After the success of last year’s first ever back-to-back shows for Mighty Hoopla, we are very excited to be returning once again to Brockwell Park as a two-day festival for 2023.”

At the festival, people can connect with other members of the LGBTIQ+ community, network, participate in workshops, explore their interests, and have a safe, inclusive space to enjoy themselves without fear of judgement or discrimination. Mighty Hoopla also works directly with various charities to support LGBTIQ+ youth, making it an important event for the wider community, too. And it’s fun, fun, fun!

It was first launched in 2016 and has featured the likes of Rita Ora, Charli XCX, Years & Years, Shura, TLC, Jimmy Sommerville, Chaka Khan, and Kele Okereke. Its aim is to provide an inclusive celebration of music and culture, with LGBTQ+ representation across the line-up and throughout the festival.

Since its inauguration, Mighty Hoopla has become one of the biggest pop moments of the calendar year and this year is no exception with R&B royalty Kelly Rowland headlining Saturday (3rd June) and UK pop icon Years and Years closing the festival on Sunday (4th June). Further highlights on Saturday will include Aqua, Artful Dodger, Jamelia, and Queer House Party. Sunday will feature Vengaboys, Rachel Stevens, Lexii and so many more iconic acts.

Elsewhere on the stellar line-up are Róisín Murphy, Kelis, Natasha Bedingfield, Loreen, Flo, Confidence Man,  Beverley Knight, Jake Shears, Aqua and Sophie Ellis-Bextor to name a few. Superstars are all coming back to Mighty Hoopla for a fantastic line-up.

Mighty Hoopla is so amazing because it provides an inclusive, vibrant, and unique experience that celebrates the best of music, art, and culture. From incredible emerging artists and popular headliners, to dance, theatre, drag, pop and indie music from the 70s, 80s, 90s, and beyond.

Mighty Hoopla has something for everyone. Plus, with a wide variety of theatre shows, workshops, spoken word, drag, and even outdoor sports, Mighty Hoopla is growing and growing.

Speaking about Mighty Hoopla 2023, Sunday’s headliner Olly Alexander said: “I’m very very excited to be back headlining the very fab queer extravaganza that is Mighty Hoopla! It’s been amazing to watch the festival grow over the years and I’m really thrilled to be part of such a stellar lineup of artists I really love! I promise to bring pleather, giant toilet cubicles, PVC and the gayest show ever to Brockwell park. Together our collective gay power will be unmatched ! It’s going to be really sexy and fun and I can’t wait!’”

“Beyond the lineup, practically every stage on the site will be upgraded and reimagined for 2022. Our audience can expect to see not only a much bigger production right across the park, but also new stages for emerging live acts, pop-up and comedy shows, as well as a brand-new dance tent filled with some of the best LGBTQ+ DJs and performers on the scene. This will be our first major site upgrade since moving to Brockwell Park and we can’t wait to show everyone to see what we have in store.” Jamie Tagg continues.

With a line-up that is truly diverse and inclusive, the 50,000 festival goers (across the two days) will once again be dazzled with performances from a variety of popstars, drag artists, comedians, and DJs across seven stages.
