For visitors who love architecture, you’ll find stunning Catalan Modernist buildings, from Gaudi’s iconic Casa Battlò and La Pedrera to Jean Nouvel’s Torre Agbar to name a few. The timeless and oeuvre d’art totale that is Sagrada Familia as well as the vibrant Park Guell steadily bring the crowd to Catalunya.

How to stand up in the highly competitive landscape of hospitality experiences? Simply by presenting the best to customers. That’s exactly what Seventy offers. It is the best hotel of Barcelona at the moment.

With its multi functional spaces, from restaurant, lounge area, swimming pool top floor and meeting rooms, Seventy offers a sophisticated atmosphere mixed with high relaxation. Inspired by the Mediterranean, colours are vibrant – think dark navy blue on the walls, yellow sofas and black and white striped cushions – and no detail has been overlooked.

Located in the quiet area of Gracia and the top of Passeig de Gracia – one of the most beautiful streets in the world – Seventy is a wonderful addition to the area and sits close to another legendary building, the wonderfully Art Nouveau Casa Comalat, also influenced by Gaudí. Other landmarks close to Seventy include Palau Robert, Casa Fuster, Casa Asia and of course La Pedrera.

The latest brainchild of Núñez i Navarro a group of local companies specialising in real estate in Barcelona, Seventy features 152 spacious and gorgeous rooms making guests feel at home. All rooms have modern amenities, including Nespresso machines, smart TV, Bluetooth connection and modern baths with tub or shower, sustainable and eco-friendly amenities, branded robes and cushions as well as wonderful decorations. The dark aubergine colour of the walls blends so well with the dark parquet and white walls. The rooms are perfect.

Enrique Alcocer Megias, Product Development manager at NN Hotels talks to Art is Alive: “Seventy Barcelona was born of the desire to create a 21st century Mediterranean guest house, combining classicism and resounding modernity; a place where we could be the best hosts in Barcelona. We wanted to create a different, surprising, and joyful space, and thanks to this collective project we have achieved it. Seventy is very well inserted into the city, and it is not only a perfect accommodation for foreign clients, but also for citizens of Barcelona. We have created a ‘non-hotel’ that invites you to stay. I think it is the perfect place for those seeking warmth and comfort, but also freshness and elegance, classic and modern at the same time in an exceptional location.”

With its modern facade, Seventy is very inviting. Leading to the busy Carrer Còrsega and the beginning of Gracia, the property welcomes guests to a refined cocktail bar with top tables and chic seating where the best drinks are served. Ideal for brunch, cold dinner and aperitivo too, the ground floor terrace is stunning with olive and orange trees instilling Mediterranean atmosphere at its best.

Interior designers Luis Bustamante and Rosa Rosselló alongside architects Carlos Ferrater and Xavier Martí of the architectural office OAB have designed Seventy using harmony, textures and tastes to reach maximum luxury and comfort. Seventy presents the most interesting mix of materials and the highest attention to details, from the books on display, the signage, and fashion of staff, everything is exquisite. “This is a collaboration from which a six-story building was born. Seventy has been given a young, elegant style without being too luxurious and very Mediterranean in which the nautical colours, with red as an accent and white wood, provide a counterpoint to the intense ultramarine blue. Fresh, clean, cheerful, and very warm, that’s Seventy. Alongside best raw materials that give the highest quality to the entire project: oak wood, leather, blued brass, treated, polished, and waxed hydraulic mosaic, mirrors…”.

The Hotel even features a spectacular cinema room boasting a large screen, for live events, concerts and films, with a cocktail in hand. Thanks to its fantastic design and acoustics, jazz and pop concerts by local artists are even on the agenda in this handsome space.

What’s the inspiration behind the history of the location? “I believe that the location plays a very important role in any hotel; it determines its character. Seventy is located at the crossroads of two neighbourhoods. To the north is Gràcia and to the south the Eixample with Passeig de Gràcia on your right. Those who know the city will know that it is a privileged location. This location allows Seventy to have a cosmopolitan essence of our multifaceted city, and this translates into the character of the space, into its identity. We have the best shops, the best restaurants, the best legacy of modernist architecture and we are just one step away from the Sagrada Familia: a perfect fit for those looking for the best Barcelona experience.” Enrique Alcocer Megias enthusiastically explains.

Gracia is remarkably one of the most pleasant areas of the city. For many Catalans and foreigners, Gracia has become the district of choice for those that want to enjoy the charms of a village-spirit without the tourists and overcrowding that often frequent La Rambla and the Gothic Quarter. This slightly more remote area of Barcelona is fantastic with its unique and independent shops, its squares and multitude of restaurants and cinemas. “In terms of culture and entertainment, I would highlight the long-running Cine Verdi, in the heart of Gràcia or visiting some local boutiques and artisan shops where you can actually see artists working on their projects. Gràcia is a neighborhood full of art, you just have to walk and marvel at its streets to get an idea of the art and culture that characterize this city. And of course, not far from Seventy are the Sagrada Familia and Park Güell.”

Barcelona is also a city of art. The MACBA museum is one of the most dynamic contemporary art museum of the world, and the SWAB fair always brings the best video artists to the city. While the Fundacio Miró and Picasso museums are must-sees, the young MOCO museum showcases pioneering contemporary artists exploring video, sensory experiences and new media.

With this fresh and buzzy art scene, Seventy also showcases artists. “Seventy is at the intersection of micro spaces that mutate according to customers’ needs. From art exhibitions to fashion events, magic, to musical performances, from work meetings to cultural presentations, from small talks to gastronomic experiences, everything has a place in this cozy space designed to unleash pleasure, relax, entertainment or work.”

At Seventy a selection of artworks by Luján Marcos, Simon Edmonson, Emilio Gañán, photographs by Ricardo Labogule or Sebastián Rosselló are on view. Its art programme is part of NN’s interest in arts and culture. “At NN Hotels, art has always been present through photography, painting and video art by artists such as Maria Espeus, Joan Tarragó or Franc Aleu. Likewise, at Núñez i Navarro Group we have the NN Gallery project that links graffiti and mural art to both ephemeral projects in our construction sites and permanent projects on doors and shutters in our buildings.” More details on these fantastic projects can be found here.

Since its inception, Seventy has been favoured by artists from the full spectrum of media and sectors. Some of the leading young artists engaged with Seventy also include Andrea Torres, Sandra Modregó, Iván Forcadell. “We are working on various projects related to both culture and art. We have upcoming projects that will integrate lifestyle, photography, curating, … This is programming that adds value to Seventy without breaking its harmony. I invite you to stay tuned, soon we will reveal some of the upcoming plans!” Enrique Alcocer Megias adds.

Gastronomy is central to Seventy too, and The Kitchen and Timeless restaurant offers the freshest ingredients serving the best Mediterranean-style cuisine. Chef Marc Mallasén heads the kitchen to present the best dishes to both local and international clientele including state-of-the-art options such as the Roasted meat canneloni with porccinni bechamel, Roast beef with Harry’s Bar dressing or meat and onion sauce, and Truffled risotto among many other delicious options.

Other chefs have graced Seventy as guests such as Dani García, Albert Adrià, Jordi Cruz and other personalities include Ona Mafalda, Diana Kunst, Lita Cabellut, Elisabetta Franchi or Barbara Lennie. Seventy is the place to be in Barcelona and its feels by its international stylish customers.

Maintaining such perfection brings a set of challenges. “As a Product Director, I believe that the first challenge should be, and is, to be the best host. This means ensuring that guest experience during their visit is the best possible, also in the city. Making sure that the needs of our customers, as well as those of our employees, are met. The biggest challenge is to keep the pulse of Seventy and to support our team.”

Sustainability and green solutions should also be part of the mind frame of hotel directors around the world. “At Seventy Barcelona we are concerned about the well-being of our guests and visitors, but also that of the planet. Every day, we work to help minimize environmental impact, promoting energy efficiency and offering services aligned with its protection. That is why we apply some of the best sustainable initiatives: aerothermal production equipment with heat recovery for the production of DHW; self-production of electricity through photovoltaic energy; high efficiency of ventilation and air conditioning equipment; passive solar protections to minimize the overexposure of the façade; exterior insulation systems to have less solar gain; inertial green roof to reduce cooling peaks in summer; and glazing with high thermal performance, selective solar control on the exposed façade and low emission on the semi-exposed façade, among others, such as the “no plastic, no paper” philosophy. On the other hand, all the lighting is done with low consumption led luminaires. As for the construction, in pavements, coverings and ceilings, noble materials were mixed, wood, steel, brass. The landscaping project was highly studied to create green areas with plants that would provide the space with elements of nature, creating wellness areas. And last but not least, we have the Biosphere Sustainable Lifestyle certified seal that demonstrates our Commitment to Tourism Sustainability.”

Reaching true luxury, Seventy features one of the most stunning terraces of Barcelona with an incredible pool. The view over the Tibidabo hill is fantastic. Located on the building ́s seventh floor rooftop, Seventy also has a solarium for sunbathing all year round and enjoy outdoor experiences. In addition, and to remain VIP, Seventy Spa offers a range of treatments using the natural and vegan brand Sçens. The gym includes modern training equipment, and the thermal spaces includes a pool, sauna, Turkish bath, and a comfortable relaxation area with loungers. It’s absolutely amazing.

“Simplicity and closeness. This is the soul of our hotel. Positioned as a Mediterranean guest house, we want our hotel to be perceived and felt as a warm and elegant home.” Enrique Alcocer Megias concludes.

Seventy can’t be more chic and more central and with its spectacular gastronomy, its pleasant terrace, its stunning spa and pool as well as its very professional staff, it’s the greatest hotel in Barcelona.
