Reopened this year after three years of configuration, design and renovations by Luis Laplace and Christophe Comoy, Mount Street Restaurant and the Audley Street pub are London’s latest ventures from Artfarm, the uber-elegant hospitality branch of super gallerists Hauser & Wirth. It complements the fantastic offer of venues around the world harmoniously merging art, design, lifestyle, and gastronomy present in Menorca, Somerset, LA, Scotland and more, and marking again the gallery’s leadership.
Across five floors, the all-encompassing property includes the ground-floor Audley Public House and upstairs Mount St. Restaurant, as well as three levels of private rooms including a stunning Italian room decorated with remarkable yellow walls, and featuring works by Morandi, Fontana and De Chirico. Upstairs, a quirky yet VVIP private lounge features a large Cindy Sherman photograph and an exclusive Louise Bourgeois carpet. King Charles was one of the first to inaugurate this fantastic part of the house.
The Scottish Room showcases a spectacular large table and remains a nod to the group’s sumptuous hotel in Scotland, The Fife Arms, with tartans on the walls, and a chic cabinet featuring the house’s sharp whisky and a few memorabilia.
Mount St. Restaurant brilliantly allows the site-specific artists’ commissions to take centre stage while presenting the most delicious gastronomy (the chestnut soup and chocolate mousse are exquisite) and most admirable wine list.
The art collection, the interiors, and attentive staff make for the most refined moment. Flooring by Rashid Johnson, paintings by Lucian Freud, Picabia, Keith Tyson, and Picasso among many other luminaries bring the restaurant experience to new heights.
This is the new ‘place to be’ in London for excellent meals and blue-chip art. It is led by Ewan Venters, former managing director of legendary store Fortnum & Mason here by bringing the highest attention to details. A must-see.
