Back in September, genius creative director and art aficionado Matthieu Blazy commissioned architect, artist and National Treasure Gaetano Pesce to design a site-specific installation for the set of the Italian House’s 2023 show grand staged in Milan. The set was organised around 400 vibrant and beautiful resin chairs and a stunning matching floor.
This week, both at DesignMiami and in the Bottega Veneta store in the city’s design district, a selection of Come Stai? chairs are exclusively on display for art and design collectors.
And who else to present them than icon Kate Moss, the star of the Milan show? The chairs are a new departure for Pesce, and his first original chair in a few years. Unique and editioned, they are crafted of cotton canvas based on traditional toile fabric, the chairs have then been dipped in coloured resin and are occasionally adorned with hand drawings.
Come Stai? also comes in the form of a new book commissioned by Bottega Veneta in collaboration with Gaetano Pesce and Matthieu Blazy. The book features an interview with Pesce and Hans Ulrich Obrist, and it explores the ideation, approach, and synergies, uncovering the many connections between Pesce and Blazy’s creative practices and values.
Contributions from Blazy and Maria Cristina Didero document the project’s background and place in Pesce’s wider oeuvre, while vivid pictures shot by Stephen Shore and Sander Muylaert illustrate the chair’s development and production. Equally to the chair, the book is truly unique.
